I Believe :: The Series

APRIL 11, 2007

Each week, veteran television host and interviewer DENNIS WHOLEY will go on location to visit a different house of worship -- church, mosque, synagogue, or temple -- to learn about that religion or faith.

The centerpiece of each half-hour program in the 26-part series is a one-on-one interview with the featured house of worship’s religious leader about the essential beliefs of his or her faith.The program also includes a brief visit inside the house of worship highlighting elements of a typical service.

Initial programs include: Baltimore’s historic Roman Catholic Basilica of the Assumption (Cardinal William H. Keeler); Non-Denominational & Evangelical: Virginia’s McLean Bible Church (Pastor Lon Solomon); The Islamic Center of America: (Imam Hassan Al-Qazwini) in Dearborn, Michigan; and Seventh-day Adventists World Headquarters (Elder Roscoe Howard) in Silver Spring, Maryland.

I BELIEVE is presented by DENNIS WHOLEY ENTERPRISES, which now produces the nationally and internationally distributed PBS public affairs series, THIS IS AMERICA.

Wholey, a Catholic, was inspired to create I BELIEVE one Sunday when he drove past a Protestant church with a full parking lot and wondered, “What goes on in there; what do those people believe?”

Wholey adds, “The goal of I BELIEVE is not to create controversy or practice “gotcha” journalism but to learn about different religions and faiths. In America’s rapidly changing culture, it’s not enough to tolerate diversity; we need to actively seek to learn and respect the way other people live, what they believe, and how they worship.”

Wholey is also the author of six books on personal and spiritual growth including the New York Times bestseller, THE COURAGE TO CHANGE. His latest book, WHY DO I KEEP DOING THAT? WHY DO I KEEP DOING THAT? is published by HCI Books.
